Whilst the Laythams Holiday Lets Retreat is based beside the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District is only a short drive away, and there are a range of dog friendly pubs to visit if you fancy the trip.

Tweedies Bar

Maybe you fancy a trip to Ambleside? Ambleside has now become a major tourist town and is one of the best towns for exploring the Lake District. The town of Ambleside is an hour and a half’s drive from Laythams Holiday Lets Retreat through the scenic Yorkshire Dales, and it is worth the visit.

Just a short drive away from Ambleside is the Tweedies Bar. This pub is well known throughout the area and widely reputed as the best pub food around. Finishing a long day in the hills the CAMRA award-winning pub is perfect to refuel with their locally sourced meals. With regular live music performances and live sports, you may find yourself staying longer than first thought. They also provide comfort for your pet pooch, with water and a log burning fire for them to relax and dry those paws off. Be sure to book a place to avoid disappointment as the pub gets extremely busy throughout the summer.

The Eagle & Child Inn

You may also fancy a trip to Lake Windermere with your little furry friend. You may enjoy a Windermere Lake Cruise where you can enjoy a tour of the lake on one of its main ‘steamers’, all dogs are welcome on board free of charge.

On your drive back from Windermere, we would recommend stopping at dog-friendly The Eagle & Child Inn. This pub provides a wonderful experience, located on the edge of the quiet village of Staveley. Great food is on offer, with a wide selection of meals and their famous selection of hand-pulled local ales to test out. The pub is perfect after a long day of exploring Windermere. Your dog will love the beer garden at The Eagle & Child Inn, backed onto a river, you’ll find it hard to stop them swimming. They provide bowls of water dotted around so your dog won’t feel too left out while you’re enjoying a pint or two.

The Britannia Inn

Another great place to visit with your dog is Grasmere Village in Ambleside. Grasmere is probably one of the most popular villages in Cumbria, thanks to William Wordsworth. Another notable fact about Grasmere is that it is now home the famous Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread Shop. People travel all over the UK to taste this intensely ginger-flavoured shortbread topped with sugary, gingery crumbs that were originally made in the 1850s.

Only a short drive away from Grasmere is The Britannia Inn in Chapel Stile, which you may want to visit for dinner on your way back to the Laythams Holiday Lets Retreat. If you’re looking for an old traditional pub, then The Britannia Inn is perfect for you. Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, the pub is surrounded by the breathtaking Langdale Valley, ideal for all seasons. On a hot summer’s day, let your pet go wild in the water and then pop in the pub for you all to relax with homemade pub food and real ales. Or if you’re visiting the Laythams Holiday Lets Retreat in the winter, take advantage of the pub’s open fire and cosy nooks.

These are just a few of the amazing dog-friendly pubs in the Lake District. Visiting the Lake District should definitely be in your plans; it offers activities for all the family, as well as many dog-friendly activities and locations.
