FOREST OF BOWLANDS BEST KEPT SECRET: GET LOST IN NATURE

At Laythams Holiday Lets Retreat, we believe the countryside should be for everyone. Whether you're looking for peaceful places to explore, inclusive activities, or well-equipped attractions, the Forest of Bowland offers a growing number of accessible experiences just a stone’s throw from our doorstep.

Tramper Trails
One of the most exciting ways to explore the local landscape is via the Tramper, an all-terrain mobility scooter designed for outdoor adventures. These can be hired at several nearby locations, including Dunsop Bridge, Gisburn Forest Hub, Whitewell, and Sabden, allowing visitors with limited mobility to enjoy the beauty of Bowland's rolling hills and forest trails with ease. Hire is available for a small donation, and we’re more than happy to help you arrange it.

Clitheroe Castle Museum
Just a 15-minute drive from Laythams, the historic Clitheroe Castle offers panoramic views, beautiful parkland, and a fully accessible museum experience. The site includes lifts to all floors, and a state-of-the-art Changing Places facility featuring hoists, grab rails, adult-sized changing benches, and space for carers. It’s a brilliant spot for a relaxed day out packed with local history and charm.

Easy-Access Walks and Green Spaces
The wider Lancashire Accessible Countryside initiative has mapped out a range of wheelchair-friendly and easy-access walks, perfect for soaking in the scenery at your own pace. From flat riverside strolls to quiet picnic spots, these routes are ideal for visitors using mobility aids or those looking for gentler paths through the countryside.

Inclusive Experiences
The Forest of Bowland also hosts inclusive guided walks and outdoor learning programmes throughout the year, designed to be accessible to people of all abilities. Whether it’s wildlife watching, nature-inspired art, or simply a mindful wander through the woods, there’s something for everyone.
